INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO USE THE CALCULATOR
-----------------------------------------
TO SHOW HOW YOUR CAPITAL COULD GROW DURING THE SAVINGS PERIOD
-------------------------------------------------------------
(1) Enter amount available for investment (1200.00) or a lump sum.
(2) Enter amount added each year or 0 if a one time investment at (1).
(3) Enter anticipated annual interest or growth rate in %.
(4) Enter how many years this investment will be left to grow.
(5) Enter the anticipated inflation rate in % Has been running at 5%
in recent years. This will show the amount to be saved each year
to keep pace with inflation. It will still only have the same
purchasing power as when you started.
TO SHOW THE AMOUNT THAT COULD BE WITHDRAWN AS INCOME EACH YEAR ON
RETIREMENT
-----------------------------------------------------------------
(1) Enter the amount of capital available on retirement.
(2) Enter anticipated annual interest or growth rate in %.
(3) Enter % of capital to be withdrawn as income at end of each year.
Always use a withdrawal as income % lower than the growth rate % to
take inflation into account. If growth rate is 20% then taking out
15% each year would give 5% inflation protection.
(4) Enter number of years which you will be withdrawing income.
HOW TO READ SAVINGS GROWTH TABLES
----------------------------------
YEAR: Shows the Number of years the investment is left to grow.
ANNUAL INVESTMENT: Shows amount invested by you each year.
CURRENT VALUE: Shows the current value of your investment at the end of
each year.
TOTALS: Are shown at the end of each column.
HOW TO READ RETIREMENT INCOME TABLES
------------------------------------
YEAR: Shows the Number of years the investment is growing and providing
an income.
ANNUAL INCOME: Shows the amount of money withdrawn at the end of each
year. For example Starting Amount = $100,00000 , Interest/Growth
rate = 15% for 25 years, withdrawal income = 10% each year.
The end of the first year would show $100,00000 minus 10% = amount of
income withdrawn = $10,00000 leaving Current Value at $105,00000.
Always use a withdrawal rate lower than the interest/growth rate to
take inflation into account. The above example would give 5%
inflation protection.
CURRENT VALUE: Shows the current value of your investment at the end of
each year.
TOTALS: Are shown at the end of each column.
FIND ANNUAL COMPOUND GROWTH
---------------------------
Enter the Cost of investment (Property, Stocks, Bonds, etc) then enter
the present value and the number of years you have held or intend to
hold the investment and the program will show the rate of return
compounded on an annual basis.
MORTGAGES
---------
Please note that American and Canadian Mortgages are computed
differently American are compounded monthly while Canadian are
compounded semi- annually.
MORTGAGE COMPARISONS
--------------------
Enter at (1) the Mortgage amount, at (2) the rate of interest, at (3)
the number of years. On the next line enter which of the three you wish
to vary and then enter the amount of increase which must be related to
the entry chosen. Program will then show a table of ten lines for
comparison.
For instance if you choose (2) then entry of 25 will show the effect of
interest rates in increments of 1/4 of 1%.
MORTGAGE DETAILED
-----------------
Enter the Mortgage Amount, Rate of Interest and number of Years. It
will then show Blended Monthly Payments of Principal and Interest, a
breakdown of where the Monthly payment goes each month for the life of
the Mortgage with Totals for each year. Hitting enter will give the data
for the following year.
INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO USE THE FUND MANAGER
-------------------------------------------
All Menu's are self-explanatory and it is easy to get around in the
Program.
One cannot do any damage if one makes mistakes. There is a datafile
called Sample.WMS with the program. Load it to see how various entries
are made.
If you find that you made a wrong choice from the Menu and wish to get
back to the Menu without making changes, just keep hitting <ENTER> to
get back.
When entering data in a record, if a line requires no data, hit <Enter>
instead of entering a 0 to save time.
Where asked for a decision, (Yes or <ENTER>), entering Y will carry out
the instruction and <ENTER> will cancel it.
Entries made by you into records, requires explanation:
(1) TYPE OF TRANSACTION: You must enter one letter to tell program how
to compute the record. B = Bought, S = Sold and D = Dividends.
(2) DATE (YY MM DD): Enter 2 digits for Year, Month and Day (89 08 31).
(3) PRICE OF EACH SHARE: Enter price of each share, do not include
commission.
(4) NUMBER OF SHARES: Enter total number of shares Bought, Sold or
subject to a share Dividend.
(5) COMM OR FEES: Enter total of cash cost of commissions or fees.
If a commission or fee is not part of a trade then enter S at (1)
with no entries at (3) or (4).
(6) TOTAL OF CASH DIVIDENDS: Enter cash dividends. No entries in
(3), (4) or (5).
BOOK COST: Shows exactly how much the Fund/s cost you in Cash. A sale
will show a minus figure. In Totals a minus figure is a profit and
reduces the amount of your Cash invested by that amount, as you have
taken it out of the Funds/ and a positive figure means you lost money
and had to put money in to cover the loss.
After all entries, the complete record will be shown, if incorrect
delete it by hitting <ENTER>
CREATE A NEW FUND NAME: If you make a mistake in a fund name, go back
and correct it by choosing the fund number and entering the proper
name or hit <ENTER> to blank it.If records have been created for that
Fund you cannot destroy them by blanking the Fund name.
CORRECT A RECORD: Enter the number of the Fund and then the date of the
record, date must be exactly as it is in the record, you will then
have to re-enter all the data for that record.
After completing the correction of a record, you will be asked if
you want to Sort the database, do so only if the date has been
changed as the records are sorted in ascending order by date.
SAVING: Put another disk in the drive and save again to have a backup
copy of your data or use a different name for your backup datafile.
You can also save to a different drive by specifying the drive
e.g. B:\NameofDatabase
WARNING: When you save the database in memory to disk, using an existing
filename that database is overwritten. If you save an empty database in
memory to disk using an existing name that database will also be empty.
Check the Main Menu 'Number of records in memory' which shows how many
records are either loaded or entered in memory.
For more detailed instructions see your 'Wealth Management System'
document.
This program is also available in a version that runs under MS-Windows
3.0 using all the graphical and button features.
